LOWER AMERICAN RIVER STRIPER FISHING REPORT 6-28-08

Its been a great week on the Lower American for Stripers.  We have had a lot of fish in the 2-5 lb range a few in the 7-9 lb range and a 10lb fish on Saturday.  Try to get out now, its only getting better with the stable flows.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SOUTH WEST MONTANA REPORT 6/27/08

Montana had a big winter with lots of rain and snow.  Most of the Mountains still have a good snow pack on top.  We were able to hit the Madison river on Saturday and did really well on large Streamers for big hungry Browns.  The next day it was blown out after a 90 deg day melted a lot of snow. If you ever head up to the upper Madison river be sure to stop by the Slide Inn in Cameron MT ( Kelly Galloup's fly shop)  Lots of great flys and a ton of good advice.

The rest of the trip was spent on the Beaverhead due to all of the rivers getting a lot of Mud from High Feeder creeks.  It worked out wee and the Beaverhead fished the best i have seen it in 8-9 years.  The bug life is in great shape and we had a between 15 and 30 hookups per day.  Most fish were around 17" to 20" with a few around 25".  It will fish well all summer long so if you are in the area be sure to spend a few hours on it. For some great info stop by Frontier Angler in Dillon MT.

Striper Shad and trout fishing report 6/15/08

The Yuba has been extremely tough on the Dry fly action.  I haven't had too many guys throw nymphs lately.  The shad action was solid for a while, but the increased flows slowed it way down.  The Striper bite remains solid if you know where to go.  We had a great trip last week that boated around 15 fish between 4 and 10 lbs.  The higher flows allow you fish more seams and the fish are defiantly holding in them right now with over 4000 cfs pushing thru the system.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Striper Shad and trout fishing report 5/27/08

The Trout fishing on the Yuba river has been poor to ok the last week.  The storm that blew in really shut things down on top.  Those that are using indicators are still picking up fish.  The Shad on the Lower American are in the whole river.  The tough part is finding them.  With Gristmill being closed you only have two choices up top of down below.  I have caught them from Howe ave up to Sunrise in the last week.  The Striper action is solid with more big fish in the upper section and a lot of small ones in the lower river.  With the flows increased to 1500 cfs it should bring in more fish from the sac.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Striper and trout fishing update 5/11/08

The striper fishing has slowed way down on the feather.  They have dropped the flows and the fish just don't seem to be entering the system.  Good numbers of shad are stacked up near the mouth of the river.  The American also has been tough for the striper bite.  The fish we are hooking have been on the bigger side.  I did find a group of schoolies that were all over a white clouser minnow on wed.  Also talked to a few guys that have been into some shad in the middle section of the river.  The Yuba has been fishing well, but last week it was tough on a lot of us.  Great caddis hatches and only a few rising fish makes it frustrating.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

YUBA RIVER FLY FISHING REPORT SAT 4/22/08

The Yuba has been great this year, the last 3 weeks have been up, down, and just ok.  The March Brown hatch is slowing down.  The PMD and Caddis hatch has been constant.  The dry fly bite has been slow on windy / cloudy / stormy days ( no surprise there) If you don't mind using an indicator you will have consistent results.  All we need is some more great weather and believe we will have a great year on the Yuba.  Hopper action is right around the corner.

Striper fishing on the American and Feather is picking up.  The Feather has show good days of 30+ fish in the 4-6lb range while other days we put up a goose egg.  Shad are in the system now and moving up as flows dictate. Look for May to be a great time to get out and enjoy the warm weather and hot fishing.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Striper and trout fishing update 4/8/08

The striper fishing was good all week until a little storm came in on Friday.  Look for more fish moving in daily.  The Yuba has had some good Dry Fly action lately, although Saturday was slow with only a few hook ups. Sunday proved to be better with a steady hatch of march Browns.  That's fishing sometimes.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fishing update / report/ Spey day with Bill Lowe

The last few weeks I have spent a lot of time on the Feather chasing stripers.  We have had days with 15-20 fish and a few days with 5-10 fish.  All are schoolies in the 4-5 lb range.  This week we will be on the lower reaches of the American seeing how far they have moved up.  The Yuba is fishing great this year, just try to avoid the cloud cover / small storms that keep creeping in they really put the fish down.

Side note on Spey day with Bill Lowe: If your into Spey or thinking about getting into Spey casting / fishing give Bill Lowe a call and get into one of his beginner or intermediate classes.  He has great energy and keeps the day moving fast.  He has an awesome way of explaining techniques and is an amazing demonstrator.  You wont be disappointed.  He has all the classic Sage spey rods and all the brand new ones for you to play with.  I took a class last week and learned a ton of great info.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

YUBA RIVER FLY FISHING CLINIC ON SAT 3/22/08

short notice but well worth it.  We have an open seat in the boat for one of our Yuba river fly fishing clinics on sat 3-22-08.  the cost is $125.00.  we will spend a few hours going over fishing techniques, casting and what flys to use.  After that will will do a 4 mile float to put all those skills to work and hook some fish.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

YUBA AND AMERICAN RIVER FISHING REPORT 3/17/08

The Yuba river was fishing great until last Friday when a small storm brought in low clouds and high wind.  The dry fly action has been almost no existent.  A few more good days of warm sunny conditions and it should be right back to the way its fished all year.

I heard a report form a friend who said he got into some good Steelhead action last week on the American.  with the low angler pressure it might be worth it to give it a try.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

YUBA AND AMERICAN RIVER FISHING REPORT 3/02/08

The American river has been hit or miss this year.  The numbers have been down but the size has been up.  We are all hopeful that a large push will come in late.

The Yuba continues to bee good to great.  With drys getting around 7-15 takes per day.  Indicators have been working well with about the same success.  Different techniques mixed throughout the day will be rewarded on this beautiful river.  The one constant seems to be the sun.  Warm weather equals hot fishing for these wild Rainbows.  I am starting to get booked up so get in touch with me soon to take advantage of the the prime summer months on the Yuba river.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

YUBA RIVER FISHING REPORT 2/09/08

The Yuba has been great so far this year.  Today was just as impressive with around 10 hook ups with fish from 14" to 18+".  Stones were the staple all day long.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOWER AMERICAN RIVER STEELHEAD FISHING REPORT 1-31-08

If you can get out early and find a good run your chances are very good right now.  I was surprised at the amount of adults I saw moving thru the system today.  Going 2/3 on the swing with the spey rod in about 2 hrs is as good as it gets on the American river.  The water was perfect with a little stain, not sure what it will look like in the morning with our current storm.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOWER AMERICAN RIVER STEELHEAD FISHING REPORT

Things have been a little slow this month.  Good reports have been in all week with a few big fish being caught.  Seems to be ok for half pounder action with the occasional adult being hooked.  I spent a few hour with the spey rod today and managed to hook one.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

YUBA RIVER FISHING REPORT 1/05/07

The new year brings new life to the Yuba rive.  Lots of big fish in the 16" to 18" range were hooked.

YUBA RIVER and LOWER AMERICAN FISHING REPORT 11/14/07, 11/16/07, 11/19/07

11/14/07 Steelhead fishing on the Lower American River is dead slow right now.  The half pounder action is slow and the adults are far and few between.  We are hoping the winter brings lots of storms and a good run of fish from the ocean.

11/16/07 The Lower Yuba river continues to be tough on anglers.  We had a few opportunities to hook fish that we just plain missed.  When the action is slow its tough to be ready for that one moment when the fish rises for a dry.

11/19/07 With a cold front moving in we thought nymphs would be best for the Yuba during an early morning float.  After an hour of no action we switched over to drys and got decent with 7 grabs on small caddis patterns during the day.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

YUBA RIVER FISHING REPORT 11/04/07

Fished the lower Yuba today.  The dry fly action was slow but we did manage a few nice rainbows on nymphs.  Big stones came off in the afternoon.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

YUBA RIVER FISHING REPORT 11/02/07

The Yuba river has been great the last week.  Lots of fish being hooked on drys.  Evening has been the best bet with caddis and may flys coming off.  Yesterday was the worst day i have seen in a while with only one fish hooked and landed.  That's the Yuba lately, hit or miss.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TRINITY RIVER 10/29/07

I made it up to fish the trinity with a few friend last week.  Good news is that the river is full of fish.  bad news, everyone else know the same thing.  Tons of guys dropping indicators on them has put them down.  Below junction city you can find good water to swing it no one else is parked at the spots you like.  reports of good fishing right now near lewiston.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

YUBA RIVER FISHING REPORT 10/14/07

Derek H. Floated two clients on the Lower Yuba River below Hwy 20 Bridge yesterday for a total of three fish into the net and several other hookups.  Indicators worked in mid afternoon with drys being the best choice in the evening.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOWER AMERICAN RIVER FISHING REPORT 10/12/07

The Lower American river Has continued to be productive with juvenile Steelhead in the 16" to 20" range.  Its hit and miss until you find them, but once you do you into them for a while.  While drifting we have been using egg patterns and nymphs.  When you get to a good run be sure to try your hand at the traditional Swing with a floating line and small leech or large nymph.  If you plan on fishing the upper section of the river, time is running out.  The upper section from Nimbus to Ancil Hoffman power lines will be closed to all fishing from Nov 1st until Dec 31st.  When it reopens be sure to avoid Steelhead and Salmon spawning areas.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOWER SAC AND ROGUE RIVER OREGON REPORT 9-27-07 THRU 10-7-07

The Rogue river near Medford Oregon Has been fishing well the last few weeks.  Anglers who put the time in are averaging 1 adult per day with a lot of half pounders in the mix.  The flows are good and the weather has been great for steelhead fishing all day with overcast and a few rain drops.  The Lower Sac is fishing good right now with a small drop in flows and a lot of salmon moving in onto redds.  Most fisherman are targeting the trout below the salmon with egg patterns and caddis imitations.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOWER AMERICAN RIVER STEELHEAD FISHING REPORT 9/18/07-

The Lower American river is full of Steelhead in the 20" range.  I have landed fish in 5 out 7 trips in the last two weeks.  The lower sections of the river seem to be a little more consistent with reports of 5+ fish in just a few hours.  This is one of the best runs of half ponders I've seen in a while.  If you have any spare time get out in the evenings or mornings.  I hope this is a preview for winter Steelhead on the American this year.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOWER AMERICAN RIVER STRIPER FISHING REPORT 8/30/07

Guide Derek Hendrickson and I went out for a little striper fishing on the lower American river.  I was one of days when everything goes great.  in two hours of fishing we landed 9 schoolies up to 4lbs and a 7 lbr.  Derek broke off on a 10 to 12 fish just as the sun went down.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

YUBA RIVER TROUT FISHING REPORT 8/25/07

The Yuba river is still fishing slow to good with a few great days mixed in.  Travis and Denise were rewarded with a few health rainbows after putting in the time with dry fly's.  The hatches were far and few between but like every day on the Yuba, sometimes they just cant resist a well placed fly.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOWER AMERICAN RIVER STRIPER FISHING REPORT 8/12/07

We had a day off to do some striper fishing for ourselves today.  Launched the boat this morning and within 15 min landed three from 18" to 24" and had another between 7-10 lbs to the boat.  We had about an hour of slow fishing and then just before the sun hit the water we got into them again.  total for the day was 9 hooked and 8 landed.  Not bad for three hours of fishing on your day off.  We are still seeing good numbers of fish.  We have see reports of 40+ lb fish in the last week.  Look for the fishing to be good for another month and then wind down into steelhead season.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOWER AMERICAN RIVER MF AMERICAN AND YUBA FISHING REPORT 7/18/07

We are done shad fishing for the year.....we went out for 3hrs and didn't hook a fish.  The Yuba was good the last few weeks until last Friday, we managed no hookup's.  Its the first time I can remember not getting any action at all on this river.  We floated it again on Sunday and landed 7.  Sometimes the fish just wont eat.  Now to all the good news.  STRIPERS STRIPERS STRIPERS.  I am shocked at the small amount of people fishing for stripers on the lower American this year.  Fish have filled the whole system and we are hooking 3 to 10 fish a day in the 2 to 10 lb range.  we have floated over a lot of 20 lb + fish this year.  Now that the shad are almost gone they will be more receptive to our offerings.  Look for the next month and a half to bring some awesome action.  Its not too early to be thinking about our silver and chrome friends they call the steelhead.  I have heard whispers of nice fish already being caught.  The run might start early this year and its never too early to start thing about the fish of 1000 cast.  Get 999 cast in during September and you will have a great October.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOWER AMERICAN RIVER STRIPER FISHING REPORT 6/29/07

The shad fishing is still good to great in the lower American.  Last night two clients hooked 8 stripers from 14" to 20".  The schoolies are fun for a while, but look for the big ones to start taking flies once the shad run winds down.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOWER AMERICAN RIVER SHAD FISHING REPORT 6/23/07

Shad fishing is hot right now on the Lower American river.  We are averaging 5 to 10 fish per rod.  The fish are in the whole system right now.  The increased flows have pushed the shad all the way up to sailors bar.  Evening seems to be the best time with white and pink being the best color.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MIDDLE FORK OF THE AMERICAN RIVER FISHING REPORT 6/20/07

The middle fork of the American river is now on the summer flow schedule with good water from mid day until dark.  Bj hooked 7 fish on dries landing 5 of them.  Not too bad for his first time fly fishing.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

YUBA RIVER FISHING REPORT 6/15/07

The flows on the Yuba have been good for a while now, The fishing is getting better each time we go out.  Look for large hoppers to pick up fish during mid day and caddis during the evenings.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MIDDLE FORK AMERICAN RIVER FISHING REPORT

Guide Derek H. put another nice brown in the net.  Total 17 fish landed with a few in the 20' range.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOWER AMERICAN RIVER STRIPER AND SHAD FISHING REPORT 5/12/07

We have been running a lot of scout trips on the lower American river lately.  We are averaging 1 to 2 stripers per trip on good days and a few days with not even a grab. On the bright side we did hook three yesterday and lost about a 10 lb fish.  We have seen other boats shad fishing, but it seems slow.  We talked to three boats and they had a total of four hookups and only landed two shad.  Its a good sign that they are moving up the system.  Expect good numbers with a week or two.  Look for the striper action top bust loose any day.  We are running mid week evening trips now and will continue for about another six weeks while the striper bite is hot!!!!!!! Give us a call to book your trip before you miss out on the whole thing.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

YUBA RIVER FISHING REPORT 4-27-07

The Yuba river is still low and clear.  The water is warming up and we are experiencing good hatches mid day and nothing in the evenings.  We managed to hook 2 fish on stone flies.  In the pic below you can see what a 20" wild rainbow can do to a 4wt rod.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

YUBA RIVER FISHING REPORT 4-5-07

The Yuba river is low @ 1300 cfs.  The water is warming up and we are experiencing good hatches all day long.  We managed to hook 7 fish on a #12 Elk hair caddis.  Look for fish feeding in the tail outs and pools.  We also got a few takes in fast choppy water.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

YUBA RIVER FISHING REPORT 3-25-07

Guide Derek Hendrickson reports the Yuba river is still fishing ok.  The flows have been up and down in the last few weeks.  We have experienced good to fair fishing conditions and great fishing when a little rain comes in.  Derek got this one on a Skwala Nymph.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AMERICAN RIVER STEELHEAD REPORT 3-25-07

I floated the American Friday, Saturday, And Sunday.  We hooked around 15 fish with about 7 or 8 landed.  Lots of spring run fish moving in the upper section.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

YUBA RIVER FISHING REPORT 3/9/07

All three of the Perez brothers caught fish today on The Yuba. Its off color but still fishing good.  ANDERSONS BIRD OF PREY was the hot pattern today.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOWER AMERICAN RIVER STEELHEAD FISHING REPORT 3/3/07

I fished with Rob and Jim on the Lower American river.  It looks like there are still good numbers of steelhead.  We got this one on a purple leech.  After Steelhead we will be targeting Stripers and Shad.  We will start offering 1/2 day Striper and shad trips for $175.00 morning or evening floats will be available.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HOOKED UP ANGLERS UPDATE 2-17-06

The Yuba is still fishing ok, and the American is in good shape.  We are excited about the new winter fishing regulations on the middle fork of the American river.  If you plan on attending the Pleasanton fly fishing show stop by the Fly fishing specialties booth to get a great deal on trips.

A month ago at the San Mateo ISE show I had the privilege to attend the premier of fish eye 3.  If you have a son, daughter, wife or friend that is thinking of getting into fishing this could be the deal breaker.  The crowd I was with was full of Guides, Reps and fly shop owner's.  To hear everyone get so excited makes you realize how much fun fly fishing can be. This is the greatest nor cal fishing DVD I have ever seen.  The excitement from the first cast to the last fish will keep you on the edge of your seat.  It is well put together and shows how rewarding the sport we all enjoy can be.  The DVD is available at most fly shops for around $25.00.  you can also order it online @ the link below.  We are going to be filming a promo DVD with the help of Mike in June on the Middle Fork and will have a trailer available on our web site.

LOWER AMERICAN RIVER STEELHEAD FISHING REPORT 2/2/07 thru 2-5-07

The American has been tough for the last two weeks.  We caught a little break today and a few little guys. Top flies today were Bird of prey, and egg patterns.

The Yuba was slow on Saturday with little surface action.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOWER AMERICAN RIVER STEELHEAD FISHING REPORT 1/25/07 and 1-26-07

The past two days have been tough.

Friday I floated from Rossmoor to Gristmill with John and Russell for Oakland.  We saw a few fresh fish, but no hook up's.

Today I fished with Doug and Robert on the Upper section from Sailors bar to Rossmoor, again another tough day.  We did see more fish heading down river.  The only action I saw was to people above Sunrise pounding the spawning fish, and stomping on reds.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOWER AMERICAN RIVER STEELHEAD FISHING REPORT 1/20/07

Went out on the Lower American this morning with Tad from Classic Casting in Alaska.  Things were slow with one hook up in about 5 hrs of fishing.  If your not a football fan tomorrow could be a low pressure day on the upper section near sailor bar.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

YUBA  RIVER STEELHEAD FISHING REPORT 1/12/07

Guide Derek from hooked up anglers put Andy from Roseville on a few nice fish on the Yuba river.  He landed this one on a sink tip with a leach.  The flows are up and the fish are moving around.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOWER AMERICAN RIVER STEELHEAD FISHING REPORT 1/6/07

I fished with Don S. and his son Pete on the lower American  river for steelhead today.  The fishing was slow with only 2 small Steelhead landed and a few missed takes.  We were the only boat we talked to that landed fish all day.  The crowds are down and its a good time to get on the water.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AMERICAN RIVER STEELHEAD FISHING 1/5/07

I floated the Lower American river from Sailor bar with client Ralph C. this morning.  The wind was tough and the fishing was a bit slow.  he landed a 1/2 pounder on an egg pattern.  Still quite a few anglers on the water and around 8 boats.  The fish are definitely think near the hatchery, but we are hooking good numbers below Sunrise.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AMERICAN RIVER STEELHEAD FISHING 1/1/07

As predicted the lower American river Steelhead fishing is good.  The crowds as large, and the fog was real bad this morning.  We managed 1 adult first thing this morning and 3 more half pounder's.  We did a short float from Sailor bar to Rossmoor.  I think we did well considering we only had one good run that had no anglers on it.  As the crowds thin out the fishing should get even better.  I saw around 30 people at sailor bar riffle and around 10 boats throughout the day.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AMERICAN RIVER STEELHEAD FISHING 12/28/06

As of 12-23-06 the Hatchery has received 1,307 adult steelhead.  220 of those came in on 12-20.  This is a large number compared to the 347 at this time last years.  The upper section from Sailors bar to the power lines opens on Jan 1st, and looks to be a good one.  Please be careful of the Spawning steelhead and there redds.  As a rule of thumb, if you can see them you shouldn't be casting to them.  I'm sure we will see large crowds along the banks so be sure to give other anglers plenty of room.

We have open dates on Jan 5th, 7th, and a few weekday trips open before the ISE shows start.  If you want to learn the river and the techniques involved in fishing the American river for winter run steelhead give us a call.  We have Special show pricing starting at $235.00 for two anglers.

E-mail damian@hookedupanglers.com or call Damian @ 916-207-2428

Have a happy new year and be safe.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

YUBA RIVER FISHING REPORT 12/16/06

I fished the Yuba river with Steve and his daughter Megan today.  The day started off well with Megan landing the first fish just after the sun came up, we had some awesome hatches throughout the day.

LOWER SAC FISHING REPORT 11-25-06 AND 11-26-06

Redding / cold rainy temp 45 deg water 50 deg

We took the weekend off and went to one of our favorite fishing spots in nor cal for some fishing.  Saturday the weather was partly cloudy and cold.  The fishing was solid all day with about 12 fish being caught in the 16" to 18" class.  Most fish were taken on a small nymph rather than the egg.  Sunday was a miserable experience on the river there were two other boats that launched with us near the posse grounds.  Within an hour they all pulled in the oars and were heading to there takeout.  The heavy rain and strong wind made it tough to cast.  About an hour into our float we got some action with a few large rainbows in the 20" range.  After that we consistently picked up about a fish per half hour.  Around 2:00 pm an amazing hatch came off in the pouring rain.  #12 - #14 caddis and #14 - #16 mayflies were everywhere.  We switched over from an indicator to a dry setup and the fishing was awesome.  We caught around 8 fish in about an hours time in one run.  The weather was cold, but the fishing was red hot.  No one on the water so if your thinking about heading up now is the time.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

YUBA AND FEATHER RIVER FISHING REPORT 11-18-06

Yuba river / warm sunny 68 deg water 52 deg

I fished with Barbbera from Fair Oaks today on the Yuba river.  She broke off on a Steelhead about 5lbs and lost another.  Not sure if they took eggs or dropper nymph.  Lots of boats on the water and a few bank anglers.  Most people had a good day with 2 to 3 fish being the average.

FEATHER RIVER / WARM 70 DEG CLOUDY WATER 56 DEG

We fished the high flow from the outlet to gridly on friday.  We hooked a few fish but only 1 was landed.  Lots of Salmon in the system.  All fish took egg patterns.  It should bust loose soon.  We talked to several boat and the report was consistant, with 1 or two fish.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

YUBA RIVER FISHING REPORT 11-11-06

We fished the Yuba river with John and his friend Jerry.  It rained on and off for most of the day and the fishing was Slow.  John had a few hookups and jerry managed one on an elk hair caddis.  Lots of salmon in the riffles, with some Trout/Steelhead behind them.  We had a good time on the water and i look forward to fishing with them again.  John landed a 34" Steelhead on the Feather the day before.  We will be on the Feather Friday and Saturday so look for more reports on sunday.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

YUBA RIVER FISHING REPORT 11-10-06

We had an outing on the Yuba river on Friday with Steve and a few of his co-workers and friends.  After we got everyone on the water and settled in the weather didn't want to cooperate.  Every time the wind would die down we saw small hatches of Mayflies and Caddis.  As soon as the fish started to feed on the surface everything seemed to stop.  That's the way it goes sometimes.  We had a good hookup right before dark that never made it to the net.  We saw lots of fish on the surface during the last hour of the day.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

YUBA RIVER FISHING REPORT 11-3-06 & 11-5-06

The Yuba river has been hit or miss lately.  Friday was slow due to the rain and temp falling.  Sunday had better hatches.  Its been tough to pattern these fish consistently.  Best bet is for trout is in deep pools below riffles with an indicator.  Try a #8 Stone with a #18 Micro May dropper or #14 caddis pupa.  When you see a hatch switch to a Caddis dry with a small nymph dropper.

YUBA RIVER FISHING REPORT with Matt and Brett 10-28-06

Weather 80 deg /sunny water temp 51-54 deg

The Yuba river has a lot more bug life now.  We saw good hatches of Mayflies, caddis, and a few Stoneflies throughout the day.  The fishing was a little slow, but the hatches were a good sign for thing to come.  There are still salmon spawning in the riffles and a lot of Trout feeding in on the surface in the slower water.

FEATHER RIVER FISHING REPORT 10-23-06

The High Flow section of the feather is getting more Steelhead in.  The water level is perfect for wading.  Use Dark red Egg patterns with #14 caddis droper.  Be sure to spend a lot of time covering the water, we caught Half ponders in deep water and shallow riffles.  If you find them stay put.  You can catch many fish in one spot.  we caught all our fish in one area.

FEATHER RIVER FISHING REPORT 10-16-06

We did a scouting trip to the Low Flow section of the Feather river on Sunday.  Steelhead are in the system right now, but they are spread out.  The high flow Section should fish better.  As you can see Melissa did a lot of rowing and not too much fishing.
