The Middle fork of American river

The middle fork of the American river is an excellent fishery.  The constant flows and temperature provide anglers the opportunity to fish for wild rainbow and brow trout.  This stretch of the river has three private property entry points between the 17 mile stretch we float.  This means that not too many people get to fish this amazing section of river.  This trip is not for the faint of heart, and you should be prepared to get wet.  It has class III and class IV+ rapids.  If you choose, there are portages at all of the big ones so we can carry the raft around them.  We think this is a small price to pay for huge fish in the 25" range.  And the beautiful scenery we will pass.  Life jackets and helmets are mandatory during certain parts of the float.  During the months of May and June a dry suit is also recommended.  Ask us for details.

The crystal clear water of the middle fork holds a great population of wild rainbow and brown trout.  These fish are usually taken on nymphs and streamers in the early season and large dry fly's in the summer months.  This river is rafted commercially by hundreds each year so the fish are not shy at all.  Depending on the type of fishing you prefer you can target quantity or quality.  The make up of the middle fork is an ideal fishery which produces lots of pocket water, riffles and deep pools.  It has a few stretches that allow you to take in the scenery and enjoy the day while floating at a relaxing pace.  The best part about this trip is the fact that you will be on the seat of your pants the whole time due to the huge rapids and even bigger fish.

The Lower section is more of a relaxing float.  It is about seven miles of wild trout fishing with a few class II and one class III rapid.  This float holds a large number of wild Rainbow trout that feed mostly on dry flies and nymph's.  The population of brow trout is lower due to the warmer water temperatures.  On this trip you can expect about five to seven hours of fishing.  The distance is short , but we will stop at every hole and wade them to be able to cover them thoroughly.

The 17 mile two day one night Middle Fork trip includes everything except your pillow and sleeping bag.  We provide the rest of the gear.  The food, Tents, and camping gear all gets hauled down in a separate boat.  This is one of the most amazing trips you can go on in California.  We put in around 8:00 am on a Friday morning and set out run the famous tunnel shoot rapids, we make camp around 4:00 pm where you get to fish one of the most productive holes on the river while we set up camp.  After an excellent Dinner we will turn in for the night and wake up early to get back on the water.  After fishing the morning hatch, we are off again to finish the last 10 miles of river.  You will spend more time fishing than most get to do in a month,  not to mention having breakfast, lunch and dinner ready for you a few feet from the river.  While we do all the work, you get to catch all the fish.
